» Garage tale

We wrote about Mark’s Plotastic idea here. Since then, he has redesigned his blog, added a word counter, done interviews, and even put up a poll to which charity the profit proceeds of his first novel will go. All the while keeping to a self-imposed deadline. And all of it from his garage.

I thought folks might like to see just where I’ve been composing this masterpiece, so here are a couple of pictures.

Plotastic workstation

Yes, it’s in the garage.

Here’s the thing: I wake up at 5:00 am every morning to write. My wife and our two kids do NOT enjoy waking up at 5:00 am. And since I’m pounding away on a 1967 Simth-Corona electric typewriter, I need to distance myself (and have a door to close). The farthest away I could get was the garage. So I turned my workbench into a writing desk.

Yeah, it gets a little warm. So I set up the little fan to keep me cool.

The nice part is the door. When I close the door, I close off the world. It’s a nice feature, and I recommend it highly. The typewriter, the door, and the 5:00 am clock-in have all contributed mightily to my progress thus far. We’ll see if I can keep it up.
