Welcome to Blank Pad,  a forum to discuss topics about our latest products, your comments and themes related to our obsessions – pen, paper and such.  Today, we’d like to know:

Where do you keep filled notebooks?

For the stationery geek who has everything

ashi-dashi-notebook-pencil-socks-1

An adorable pair of notebook and pencil socks.

“You may be wondering, “Other than looking like a piece of notebook paper or a standard #2 pencil, what’s so special about these socks?” Umm. They look like a piece of notebook paper and a standard #2 pencil. That’s awesome! Does every killer product nowadays need six functions and Bluetooth connectivity? No! That being said, AshiDashi socks are known for their high quality craftsmanship. The 75% acrylic / 25% stretch nylon blend is slightly thicker and much more durable than your standard cotton socks…”

I like the notebook socks better. You?

Rhodia in Canada

rhodia5335d

Nice mention of Rhodia in this article by Nathalie Atkinson in a recent post on Canada’s National Post online. A number of stationery items are listed. A snip.

“Crooner Hawksley Workman wrote an eponymous love song about shiny, superwhite Clairefontaine paper (founded in 1858 in the Vosges region of France). Others rhapsodize about Rhodia’s perforated notepads. The striking pylon orange and black Rhodia calepins (founded in Lyon, France, in 1934) are the preferred paper of both Francis Ford Coppola and Jay McInerney. British designer Paul Smith keeps only two things with him at all times: an old-fashioned camera and a small Rhodia notepad…”

Potentially Percipicacious gets a sample package from Rhodia and discovers a tiny surprise within:)

“As you can see by the quarter next to the notebook, this Rhodia is very small! It’s the smallest I’ve ever seen. This will fit wonderfully in my large pencil case.”

Have Journal Will Travel

Today’s web find is an Australian blog called “Have Journal Will Travel”  by ARTEEFAQUE: (ÄR’TƏ-FĀKT’), who is  ”A never-trained/studied, freak-of-fate multi media collage and journal artist for personal peace & past-time pleasures. Serious collector of antiquities, antiques, signed first editions and shells…”

We love the bird drawings (on Rhodia, of course!) here and check out photos from the Cook Islands here.

la via rhodia on La Vie Graphite

La Vie Graphite takes us on a journey through his hometown. What a joy!

“The pilgrim journey of jots and jumps makes an ephemeral diversion, with a welcome to my dear home, Portland, Maine. The small city cradled upon the Atlantic waves of Casco Bay was ever beloved by native Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

This small coastal state, at the northeasternmost corner of the U.S., has been home to numerous writers and artists. This visit, however, has a scribbler’s twist: we begin by crossing the street from Longfellow’s house…”

Essentially Invisible to the Eye

rhodia-web-notebook-90g-paper-noodlers-blue-ghost

Leave it to the Office Supply Geek to experiment and find out for us this heretofore arcane wonder:

“I tried the Noodler’s Blue Ghost on multiple different papers and it seems to get the best results when used on non-white paper, especially a non bright AND non white paper. The Rhodia Web Notebook with 90g paper in the cream color got by far the best results. The photo above shows the writing sample in that Rhodia Webnotebook . The light that I used for getting these pictures is from Feit Electric, which is a compact fluorescent light, so its even environmentally friendly. There are many better and worse options for a fluorescent light, so do your research and find the one that is best for you, but also be aware that lights like this can be dangerous for your eyes, so exercise care when using them….”

The Food Pornographer

Congratulations are in order for a foodie and Rhodia user Down Under.

My family surprised me with congratulations on the completion of my PhD!  They presented me with a gift – a LAMY pen and mechanical pencil set and a Rhodia notepad with a leather cover, and a second notepad. It was very sweet of them all. To be honest, I’ve been completely underwhelmed by the completion of my PhD. My family and friends have all been really excited and thrilled about it, which is nice…”

Chef Hosea Rosenberg on Rhodia

chefhosea

Season 5 (Bravo Network) Top Chef Hosea Rosenberg, originally from Taos, New Mexico, was always good at math. After graduating 3rd in his class at Taos High School, he moved to Boulder, CO to study at the University of Colorado. His dream was to be an astronomer. During his years as a Colorado Buffalo, Hosea worked in local kitchens to pay his way through school. In 1997, he was awarded a Bachelors of Science in Engineering Physics. After graduation, he spent some time traveling and it was then he realized he was spending more time thinking about food than about math.

We just learned that Chef Hosea likes the Meeting Notebook and the Reverse Pad:

“Rhodia can handle the abuse of my work environment:  moisture, dirt, and getting tossed around.  I carried one with me during my competition and it really came in handy.  I love to sketch my ideas on paper but most notebooks just fall apart in the kitchen.  The Rhodia pads look great and stay together all the way to the last page.”

Exacompta Sketchbook

Gentian Osman in Seattle tried the Exacompta Sketchbook recently and wrote about it:

“I finished this one a while ago, but I did not get a chance to post it. I had recieved a wonderful Exacompta Sketchbook as part of a package from Exaclair inc, when I reviewed J. Herbin inks. It’s really a great sketchbook with lovely paper. I’ll have to draw in it some more! I was hoping to finish the moleskine I have had for ages, before moving on to a new book. I just have a bad habit of working in multiple books at once. But I can see myself easily wanting to work in this one the most.”

Here’s a close up of the delicate pencil work.
