As a bookbinder, although I love the Rhodia Webnotebook, I have to admit I like the way the Moleskine lays open better. That is the ONLY way it is better. The problem is that the signatures of the Webbie are too thick. I know it's more expensive to use fewer sheets per signature (because it requires more sewing) but its worth the effort. Secondly, the glue used on the spine is terrible! It is basically hot-melt glue like they use in those hot glue-guns for crafts. When it cools it's thick, hard plastic. That's why, in Bill's words, "the darn thing wouldn't lay flat" Instead, use a thin layer of flexible polyvinyl white glue. Take care of those two minor adjustments and you'll have a nicely opening book. And you will have, far and away, the best of the best!

i just got myself a couple of Leuchtturm1917 notebooks - their large size i can't find made by anyone else is awesome- first i nearly bought a squared page version like i always usually do but then i spotted the 'dotted' page - this is so cool now i have squares {sort of} lines {sort of} i find myself endlessly doodling in my book- haven't laid it flat yet as i always have it on my lap catching the train and bus to work.
bought a canvess covered mini size pocket book as well but blank pages

Check out the Leuchtturm 1917 which I think is better than anything else. I haven't bought one yet but it is supposed to lie flat - I am certain I read that somewhere. And all in all, it's features outdo everything else - for instance it has a table of contents to go with numbered pages.

Nice review!

I think the journal is too tight also. Close itself and very difficult to write with because is does not lay flat on the table.
