Rhodia always had a small following in the U.S., but it really took off after a Sunday NY Times article on Paul Smith. The story ran on April 13, 2003, and was titled, "A Bright Repository for Bright Ideas." Here's a link to the story - http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/13/fashion/13POSS.html

The article was about Paul Smith's use of Rhodia pads in jotting down his ideas, thoughts, sketches. One of the photos in the article showed Paul Smith's pile of Rhodia pads. I'm sure pretty another showed him holding a No. 12 Rhodia pad - his favorite.

The article ran on a Sunday. When I arrived for work at Exaclair at 7:30 am Monday morning the floor was strewn with faxes of people trying to order Rhodia, and the fax machine worked all day and the next day as orders poured in. We were sold out of every Rhodia pad in stock within two days and had to beg France to expedite a shipment!

The retailer mentioned in the article - Vickerey - out in Boulder, Colorado, was besieged with orders the week after the article appeared, and a number of the faxed orders we got were from Vickerey trying to keep up with demand.

Vickerey was one of the first U.S. retailers to order these new Paul Smith Limited Edition pads and is a good source for all things Rhodia.

Journaling Arts was the first retailer to offer the new Paul Smith pads online.
