» Rhodia, an Omelet and a Cup of Coffee
Flickr member Margaret Mendel posted the following to the Rhodia Drive Flickr Group:
“Yesterday I took my trusty RHODIA notebook to Brooklyn to work out the plot to my next writing project. I sat in a coffee shop and had an omelet with grated apple, brie cheese and ham and a hearty cup of coffee. Then I took a walkabout and shot some pictures. All in all it was a very relaxing and satisfying day.”
I don’t usually write in public places, and I always wonder if I should give it a try… I wonder if the atmosphere and surroundings would provide inspiration, or distraction? My neighborhood is pretty quiet during the day, and I sometimes think about going to the library to write but when everything is so quiet at home, I often end up just staying right here with all my pens & notebooks & quilted slippers…

My best writing sessions recently: after a long walk, perhaps a stop in a bookstore and a chat with a friendly bookseller, then a good and simple meal in a restaurant that’s new to me, with a glass of wine. Ideas leap and bound easily onto the Mole/Rhodia/Clairefontaine/Habana/whatever notebook happens to be the skating rink of the Lamy/Pilot/Parker… I find it delightful in every way. Thanks, Biffy.
I love that photo! I have three cherished Rhodias for three different reasons: one, the little 7.5×12cm, goes everywhere; it’s for lists (books and movies to get, groceries, projects), and, most recently, trout fishing (it was in its own Ziplok bag in my waders pocket with a stub of a Rhodia pencil). The 21×29.7cm stays by the computer and phone for work. The Reverse notebook has the best job of all: I write in it by the fire, outside in the sunshine, in my easy chair with a cup of tea . . . It’s used for calligraphy, note-taking while I read, journaling–you name it. Ah, the joys of the ubiquitous, indispensable Rhodia!
