There seems to be some magical vibration to thoughts of the year 2010. I have a sense that something grand will occur this coming year. We've reached forward a decade since all the fuss over Y2K. More and more people are reaching backwards towards analog tools as the technology of the 21st century continues to grow, boggling the minds of anyone over forty (or pushing sixty.)

It is refreshing for me to see high school and college kids using fountain pens, notebooks, and journals while working with a laptop is nearly mandatory for young folks to succeed in today’s educational systems. The cell phones, smart phones or blackberries are here to stay as technology pushes forward, yet when you look around you can find people sitting in quiet corners with a pen or pencil putting words or images on/in a notebook, sketchbook or journal. Bookstore and cafes (coffee houses) have more people in them than the local bars. Hot spots were once nightclubs or bars are now Barnes and Nobles, Borders, Starbuck or any place one can pick up a wireless signal. Yet the old and the new are intermingled amongst the participants.

I am reminded of a time when old codgers would gather round a pot bellied stove to play checkers on top on a cracker barrel at the general store while socializing with their neighbors. I feel a sense of hope for the future of our world while marveling at the youth of today. They may be fully equipped with the latest and greatest technology of the ages, but their minds are set on a higher path for knowledge, human interaction, equality, ecological and economical living.

Exaclair with their quality products at economical prices and environmental concerns is helping to lead the way. I gain great pleasure from my association with their products while looking forward to new products and new ways to use them.

Enjoy your "long winters nap."

There is something magical about a fountain pen and paper. It's timeless. No matter how much we rely on technology, creating the written word is filled with wonders.
