» Rhodia Paper Loves Fountain Pens

Superfine 80g white Rhodia vellum paper with its exceptionally smooth satin finish is a perfect companion for use with a fountain pen. As their nibs delicately glide across the surface of the paper, it becomes less of a chore and more of a joy to write down even the most trivial notations.

Up until two years ago, I almost exclusively used ballpoint pens for all of my writing. As the ink used in a ballpoint pen is thick and oil based, they require a certain amount of pressure on the point to make them write. This is evident if you write on top of multiple sheets of paper – look behind the page you are writing on and you will find indentations on the page that could quickly be analyzed by the folks at CSI.

In contrast, the ink in a fountain pen is water based and flows through capillary action. You barely need to touch the pen to the paper for the ink to flow. For me, this was bye-bye cramped hands and wrists from my marathon journal writing sessions.

I then began to realize that I could take my writing experience to an even higher level by selecting the best paper to suit my needs. Quality papers contain materials that resist ink. A paper’s resistance to ink  means minimal bleed through and feathering. Rhodia paper is excellent for use with fountain pens – if you haven’t already tried it, I highly recommend it.
