» User Review: Clickthing’s Portable Plotting Device
Clickthing is one of the several amazingly interesting blogs that I read where the posts are first written on a manual typewriter. I sometimes wonder how many people in this younger generation who are used to communicating via their Palm Pilots, iPhones, Blackberrys and Netbooks have ever even seen a manual typewriter in action. In Clickthing’s blog entry entitled, “Five by Five” he goes on to describe his use for a Bloc Rhodia #11 pad as a Portable Plotting Device. Read the full blog entry here.

I’m only in my 20s but I routinely used an electric Brother typewriter (and later, a word processor with a full screen) to type reports in middle school and high school. My family didn’t get our first computer until I was 15 so it was either typewriters or nothing.
I wrote my college theses (yes, more than one) on an electric typewriter. I couldn’t afford the cutting edge computer of the day – the Apple IIc.
Today the old Smith Corona, the Apple IIc and I are probably all museum pieces.
About typewriters, the Baltimore city police still use them in the first episode of The Wire, if you’re interested. Also, you’re showing your age if you think young people use Palm Pilots.
