» Acrylic Paint on Clairefontaine Watercolor Paper

While I have been playing around with watercolor paints for several years, I’ve been kind of shy about trying acrylic paints because I didn’t know anything about them. Didn’t have a clue what kind of surfaces they would “stick” to, how they would mix, or how it would clean up.These are cheap acrylic hobby paints from the craft store (the $1 a bottle kind) and I painted this with inexpensive sponge brushes and chopsticks… just squirting the paint on the paper and pushing it around, then dipping the ends of the sticks into the little paint puddles I had made on a plastic dinner plate.
The paper I used was from a spiral bound Clairefontaine Watercolor Book that I previously reviewed here, and I was quite surprised to see that there were no ill effects from using one type of paint on a paper designed for another. I’ve seen my friend Tammy over at the Daisy Yellow blog do a lot of brightly colored paint work in her art journals and I think I might have to start using more of these paints on a regular basis… I just love how vibrant they are and how I can use light colors over dark!

Neat! Yeah don’t be afraid of acrylics. They are easy to use and versatile on a variety of surfaces. :) Also if you make mistakes or don’t like something you can always paint over it. ;) They sell fluid acrylics too, they are thinner and allow for glazed, watercolour like effects.
Many, many years ago I started using acryllics when I was building model airplanes. I soon loved to work with them, they were so much easier for me than the oil paints that I had been using, and as Gentian mentions, mistakes were so much easier to correct.
