» Zippered Closure

We recently got this email on our Rhodia website: “am mad (love) about your paper quality; brought an armful of pads today and would love to know where to purchase buttery-soft leather pad holders, preferably with zipper close for the different size pads.”

Exaclair has gotten this request enough at this point to prompt me to start looking for a possible supplier – either at the upcoming National Stationery Show in New York or through our customer recommendations.  I do know of two artisanal places: one in Montana and a second in Washington State - one-person shops that make leather covers to order and completely by hand.  Stephanie has suggested Colonel Littleton in Colorado. I know Tom Bihn makes wonderful bags where you can tuck in your Rhodia pad, but not leather zippered ones that I can see.

Friends, please help me with your advice:  would you be interested in a leather zippered cover for your Rhodia pad? Can you suggest any suppliers? Would there be any other feature in this product that would be important to you; i.e., pen holder, place for business cards, etc.? All comments and suggestions are welcome.  Thank you very much.

I have a junior size zip folio made by DayRunner that someone from the DIYPlanner site kindly sent me. You can see a picture here:

Plus two other pictures shown as thumbnails on that page.

It has a removable ring insert which I took out, and put in my own home-made Circa notebook.

I think the neoprene description is wrong. More like lightweight ballistic material or something.

Sorry, not junior. More like A5 – what’s the American equivalent?

Tom Bihn is working on a highly anticipated “Field Notebook” that they say will be ready for pre-order this summer. Maybe this can be adapted for a Rhodia pad. Anything he makes is meticulously designed and of the highest quality. I love all my Tom Bihn products!

How odd.
I haven’t been able to find a cover I like and have been leaning on Mrs. to put her considerable stitching skills to work for me.

I’ll share photos of the results.

T

http://renaissance-art.com/ does some great covers for all kinds of items, including Moleskines of various sizes, so I’m sure they could do Rhodia pads.

Are you thinking of padfolios? I see those at major office supply stores. However, my ideal one would have space for 3 pens, some business cards, and perhaps a pocket or two. Definately zippered around 3 sides. Big enough to hold an 8 1/2 by 11 inch pad but not too big in case I want to carry a smaller pad of paper.

I have a Three Ring Binder Padfolio from LeatherTree that I have my full size Rhodia pad in http://www.leathertree.com/three-ring-binder-padfolio-566/ but I agree with rox – I’m sure Renaissance Art could do something.

Karen,

I have enclosed a link to my Flickr site with a version of a zippered case I found some years ago on a military supplies website. The case is not only a pad/spiral notebook holder, but also a combination pen/pencil case with a front pocket. I really like the case and find it very useful even though the 4X6 Rhodia pad is an extremely tight fit.

The case would be perfect for me in a leather edition with a little more room for the 4X6. I wouldn’t even mind something similar as a case for the Webbies or a portfolio style for the No. 18 pads or spirals. Even the Mlle No would be great in a leather portfolio type case.

I actually keep my large Triomphe pad in a standard leather portfolio with envelopes in the slit pocket.

Hope this helps.
