» Gfeller custom leather cases for the Rhodia Webbie
Gfeller Casemakers in Meridian, Idaho has been known since 1946 for their manufacture of leather goods for the purpose of field study. I recently spoke to Steve Derricott President & Co-Owner of Gfeller Casemakers, Inc. when he told me,
“If you have an opportunity to check out our notebook covers, we are adding an item for the increasing popular Webnotebook. A number of requests for custom leather covers for the volume have prompted us to add this as a regular item, just as soon as we receive the tooling to speed up production.”
“We have selected our regular USA tanned Skirting Leather for the cover of this folio. This leather is extremely durable and is in keeping with our regular product line. While being profoundly functional it also allows us to incorporate our traditional burnished blunt edge…always an indicator of high quality hand produced leather goods. We build this folio with or without loops on the cover. Both models are quite popular.
Due to customer demand we have just recently introduced our notebook covers in traditional English Kip leather for the Rhodia “Webbies” A5 webnotebook. These covers have proven very, very popular. Gfeller introduced a method of building notebook covers that allowed use of the elastic closure found on these and other notebooks. We hand select and fit the kip leather to produce notebook covers of distinction.”

I personally became aware of Gfeller several years ago when they started to make cases for Moleskine. As I was using Mole products at that time, I ordered one of the Gfeller cases and it was a beautiful top quality product. My case shown above is now with a friend since now I regularly use the larger Rhodia Webbie.
The Idaho Professional Field Folio is another one of Gfeller’s custom leather products.

Now this, is great news. Ive used their products in the past, real craftsmanship and great materials. I have no doubt that my great-grandchildren will find them as useful and enjopyable as I have.
Oh, if only I could have bought one back when they were still $40… then I could have one for my Moleskines *and* … well, then I could afford one period. $75 for a cover? I desperately wish I could swing it.
