Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving always gives me pause to reflect on what I have to be thankful for. In this moment, I am quite grateful to have the opportunity to work with Karen Doherty. She is amazing and makes me feel as though my efforts are always appreciated. And I most certainly appreciate you as well! Loyal customers who stick with the orange & black, who talk about our products with their friends and be social with us here on the internet. You are the reason I have this awesome job! Thank you for continuing to support Rhodia and all the other awesome Exaclair brands. Have a safe & happy holiday and try not to eat too much turkey! Gobble gobble gobble!
PS – I promise to take a new picture when I see Karen in December. :o)
Who wanted a dotWebbie? You got it! Rhodia Responds!
Just got off the phone with Karen – the people’s request for a dotWebbie has been granted! It will contain the same off-white paper and will have pale gray dots. There was originally a discussion of using the white paper with violet dots, but when we asked, our fans responded loud and clear Continue Readering »

How to tell a Webbie 1.0 or 2.0 from a 3.0
If you weren’t aware, the famed Rhodia Webnotebook (the “Webbie”) has gone through a few transformations over the years – in part to our fans giving us feedback and suggesting ways to make subtle improvements upon the design. Our friend Brian Goulet at the Goulet Pen Company recently wrote a detailed post on the history of the Webbie on his informative blog, Ink Nouveau. Kamikaze Cook or Recipe Book?
A short while back while staying with my friend Ellen in Virginia, I learned of the term, “Kamikaze Cook.” I’m not sure if she made it up, but she used it to refer to people like me who cook flying by the seats of our pants- without following a recipe. Ellen on the other hand, used recipes to cook me dill & mustard halibut, gluten free cookies, and the most spectacular shrimp & linguine with a tomato cream sauce. Her cooking was magnificent. But so too were my omelets stuffed with lump crab meat & cream cheese, topped with a bit of salsa. Continue Readering »
What do you like to keep lists of?
I’ve mentioned before that I keep a book of lists. Concerts attended, places visited… I especially enjoy making lists of things from my childhood. Favorite songs, TV shows, books – these lists often come in really handy when thinking of things to write about. In fact, whenever I’m off on some new adventure, I’ve started writing simple words or phrases in list form to capture the moments as I am in them, rather than sitting for an hour and recounting every detail- which to me, can tend to water them down. I found I really like stepping away from something and then coming back to it so I can experience it all over again.
What do you enjoy keeping lists of?
A Bigger Spiral?
A short while back when I asked people if they would want to see the dotPads come in additional sizes, someone happened to mention that they would like to see a spiral pad with more pages… like 250. As Exaclair does not import every Rhodia product from France, I pulled out the French catalog to see if any Rhodia products presently exist with a higher page count. Most spiral products fell into the 80 or 90 page range and even the larger Clairefontaine line didn’t really seem to have something to surpass that mark. I wonder why?Are there any brands of spiral notebooks that have more than the typical “one subject” amount of pages?
So here’s the question, would you want a side-spiral Rhodia notebook with more than the standard 80/90 pages? And if yes, how would you use it?
Being Open to Experience
This year has been absolutely amazing for me because I allowed myself to be open to experience. Gone are the days when I second guess everything or blindly pass judgments because I live in fear. This has been part of a five year journey which I expect to continue for the rest of my life. Why am I sharing this? Because it all began with the djembe. Ever see the movie The Visitor? The Smell of Paper
In response to yesterday’s post that Karen wrote about loving the smell of books, I agree. Having practically grown up in the public library, I know where she is coming from. But for me, it isn’t exactly about the smell of the books… it’s the smell of the paper. Continue Readering »
The Smell of Books
When work or life gets too stressful and overwhelming, I pack up and head to a bookstore. Spending some time walking in the aisles, picking up the books, turning the pages, breathing in their scent, calms me down and makes me feel reassured and centered. This is particularly the case with old books–their sturdiness, their age, the heaviness of the pages–has always been a steadying and soothing influence when I am upset or feel disquieted.
Does the smell of old books (or new books) and paper have an effect on you?
PS – One of my favorite places is Strand Bookstore in New York.
Just One of Those Days
2010 has been my year to be a roaming gypsy. Last week I was in Virginia visiting with friends – my 1st real trip to VA where I was able to see much of its beauty. Endless mountains, undulating hills with bright green grass, (In November!) there was much to see and much to love. Continue Readering »
