Hm, launching an app in conjunction with a stationery is tricky; I suppose a first step would be to take note of the failures that Moleskine had when they launched an app. (Lots of bad reviews there)

What I’d like to see:
- the “home page” of the app would be the feed from Rhodia Drive blog
- ability to browse the Rhodia catalog
- ability to browse the flickr pool

Interesting…
For me to use a Rhodia mobile application I would like:
#1 Andriod version
#2 Some way to keep track of my Rhodia products and how much life they have left in them.
#3 A way to search for somewhere to buy replacements for my products when they run dry
#4 Updates from this blog

This seems strange to me. I thought the focus was the paper. I don’t understand how this application would work.

Hmmm…

Somehow a Rhodia app seems counterintuitive to me. What would the purpose be?

I know Moleskine has one but the last time I looked it wasn’t getting very good reviews (and I deleted it after maybe 10 minutes of playing with it); it seemed superfluous, only offering functions that other apps did better.

My first comment is “why?” If it is just Yet Another drawing/freehand notes app that’s just branded Rhodia, I’d question the value. There are many of them out there, and if the only thing that really distinguishes this one is that it happens to be orange, it’s not really going to displace one I have on there already.

(Not to say there isn’t some variance among them…)

Some things that might be nice, however:
-A tool to convert among various ISO paper sizes. Say, a calculator to suggest the required percentage to enlarge an A5 document to A4 (or most closely come to a 4×6 index card). It can even map to Rhodia paper (“…is the same as a No. 15 pad…”)
-Design/print (using Apple’s or Google’s iOS printing solution) pages that can go in a Webbie (for instance, contacts)
-Use a dot pad pattern for a game of dots (alternate connecting, whoever completes the most boxes wins)

Of course I’d like to see all their products and all the specs of each product. Any specials they are running and a list of online or local stores that carry their products. I would like plenty of gallery pics of the products so I know better what I can expect to get when I order it. Also any contests or give-aways that contain Rhodia products.

I can’t imagine you can replicate the smoothness of Rhodia’s paper on the screen of an iOS device, or the tactile feeling of pleasure it gives, so I would be more interested in a iDevice accessory — maybe a bright orange flip-up case for it, or something like that. However, if you were able to create a writing pad experience as nice as Penultimate, an iPad writing pad app, it would be fun to use.

DON’T make it like the Moleskine app… bad

Bamboo has a nice simple one to go with their Bamboo Stylus. Take a look at that

Do It (tomorrow) is a very nice simple To Do

And there are hundreds like Notability, Notekata.

And then things like iA Writer and Plain Text where the aim is to remove distractions for the writer – maybe a Rhodia version of one of those?

Just read some of the above. I would certainly go for a nice orange, durable but not overly fancy, Rhodia iPad case….

I’m also a little confused over the utility of a Rhodia app.

If its a notebook app, there will be better ones available. Fact is there really is no connection between a bound paper notebook and note taking software.

If its a shopping app, that would be great, but since you don’t offer direct shopping via your US site, this is doubtful.

If its a portal to your website content, then all you need is a good mobile optimized site rather than an app.

The only thing I find potentially interesting is a digital version of the traveling Moleskine project. Create a drawing / text program that can create and share an album within a member group or the next person on the list. Once the 96 pages get filled, the book gets locked and uploaded to the rhodia site for display.

Instead of an all I’d rather have a working distribution channel here in Germany. Doesn’t have to carry the entire prodct range, just make a start.
Please.

If you’re making it a notebook app, then the choice of lined, grid, dot, or blank paper, ivory or white, would be one feature. Other format features would be a choice of product (webbie, stapled notepad, reverse book, etc.), emailing the page, saving it to Dropbox or Evernote.

If it’s more of product review app, then updated Rhodia news with product information and where to buy near me would be great.

I too am a bit confused as to what purpose the app would serve. I look forward to using my paper products as a way to disconnect from technology. I’m not so sure I’d be willing to combine or mirror the analog/digital experiences.

I’d want the app to provide those features my physical Rhodia products cannot:

1. A location-based directory of retailers for when I need a refill;

2. A full catalogue of Clairefontaine’s products; perhaps including product reviews;

3. Integrate the social community here on Rhodia Drive/Flickr/etc; and

4. Stay true to the minimal design principles that have served Rhodia so well (no Moleskine app clones, please). The app must be useful, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing.

Not sure what uses you have in mind for a Rhodia app. However some functions like:

Using location services to show the nearest retailer via Google Maps.
As Charles suggested above, a conversion table for pad sizes; inches to centimetres to ISO sizes to Rhodia numbers would be useful.
Content from this blog.

Please don’t make it a Moleskine clone. That would be a shame.
Just my 5c.

For me the Rhodia App should support various Operating Systems: Windows, WP7, Symbian3, iOS, Amdroid.
Support different paper formats: lined, grid, blank, dotted.
Options for: Handwritng text, keyboard text and Drawing.
Choose of pen types and nib widths.
Organize notes/docs by: Title, Date, Subject.

I have an idea. The Rhodia app would be a program that acts as a notepad for longhand, drawn, and typed content – but keeps it in sync across multiple devices, PCS, Macs, and tablets or something. Maybe no Cloud servers or anything like that to fail, if you can implement it in a way that works without them.

I would like a Rhodia app that works as well as UPad but looks as good as a Rhodia notebook. Import/Export PDF files. Dropbox integration, etc. All of the features that make an outstanding note taking/pdf annotating app great!
