» Vintage Rhodia

I wonder when this image was taken. 1940′s maybe? I’m specifically eyeballing the cahiers on the right – the ones that look like composition books. Seeing the rounded corners on each of the products above makes me so happy – rounded corners are kinder on the palm of your hand when you reach the bottom of the page.

See anything you like? If there were enough interest, maybe we could convince Rhodia in France to reproduce one of their vintage designs…

It’s hard to tell from such a small picture, but the composition book-style ones across the middle look good. I just hope they’ll offer them in the UK too.

I would love to see (and buy) a vintage line of Rhodia.

Oh how cool… Makes me wonder all sorts of things… where is this? Was the store closed? What sorts of people were milling around? Students, writers, stenographers…if in Europe, was this during the war? I bet this paper would have stood up well to the less than ideal conditions if carried either by those in the war or fleeing it… There is a story here somewhere. I know, not to the point of your question, but still… thanks for the neat snap.

I love vintage pictures and that one is very cool. The cashiers are nice. Rounded corners are esthetecally more pleasing, in my opinion, as well as easier on the hand. Do you think that picture was taken at some sort of a trade show?
oxo,
Betsi

The three designs in the middle (under the “100 pages” signage) look very interesting and delightfully retro!

I guess France had other matters in mind during the 1940′s, so my guess is that it was either before 1939 or, more probably, after 1950. For those of us living in Europe, the austerity and shortages of World War 2 lasted well into the ’50s.
Maybe Rhodia created cahiers for French schools and this was a display aimed at teachers?
Thanks for a still great RhodiaDrive
By the way … BBC-TV featured a clip about mandalas and the way that Carl Jung employed them to assist he reseraches into psychotherapy. Thought you’d like to know!

Thanks Colin, I’ve read a bunch on Jung and his use of the mandala. Without prior knowledge of his work, I’ve pretty much used it for the same reasons he did – to monitor one’s daily mindset.

Can they reproduce the prices? LOL.
