» Who inspires you?

When Deb was a little girl she dreamed of going to Africa…of lions, elephants, and giraffes.

In the back of this group, leaning over – that’s my friend Deb. You can’t imagine how proud I am of her right now. The short story is that Deb’s in Africa right now, Kenya to be exact. She and her boyfriend Scott and have been traveling from villages to towns and seeing much more of this world than I think she may have anticipated. (Oh, and yes – she already has sent back images of elephants, lions and giraffes.)

I remember a year ago her talking about taking this very trip – a trip she wanted to take since she was a little girl lying in bed having cancer irradiated from her body.

She skimped and saved and bought her plane tickets and she finally did it. She is fulfilling a life-long dream and that’s only one part of this story that inspires me. What really gets me is how far she has allowed herself to go out of her comfort zone by taking this trip. A brief exchange with her last night through Facebook let me know that she has seen both the best and the worst of what the world has to offer in her travels. (I’ll let her share the specifics when she gets back) Though only halfway through their journey, both Deb and Scott are already referring to this trip as “forever life changing.”

I’ve always believed that perspective is necessary for growth and Deb just knocks my socks off.

Bravo my friend – travel safe.

PS – If you’d like to see Deb’s pictures, she has a Facebook page. She mentioned having taken almost 100 per day…
