» Back to School already?
Maybe it’s just me, but back in the stone age when I went to grade school, I don’t remember ever going back in August. August was when you went shopping for Trapper Keepers, three ring loose-leaf paper, Erasermate Pens, Sergio Valente jeans, banana combs, Aigner keychains… (because I couldn’t afford a wallet or purse like the other girls.) Since I don’t have children I have no real clue – but it sure seems like the school year is shorter than it used to be.
I’ve also taken notice of all the new freshmen arriving on the local college campuses – wandering around town and getting a feel for their new digs for the next four years. (I can’t help but wonder how many will be taking Rhodia to school with them.)
Does time move faster as we get older?

Cool pic – My husband works for UMass Amherst and I appreciate the shout out of the UMass family. I definitely think the summer is getting shorter, but whether or not that’s a bad thing is open to debate.
Omigoodness…haven’t thought about TrapperKeepers for the longest time! LOVED my TrapperKeeper, though it didn’t really help me stay organized. (Through no fault of the TK).
And, I still get new notebooks for the school year! Just the other day I got a couple LeCarre’s, #12s, and a couple of Clairefontaine Graf It-s that were on sale. And new pens…oh yeah.
But, in answer to your question, I’m not sure time moves faster as an adult so much as time is slower as a kid…there is more time to see, touch, create, interact with all that is new and surrounding you. Time is gracious that way… and perhaps in that way teaching adults to make the most of every moment…savor the small stuff along the way…

The theory I’ve heard regarding time “speeding up” as we age goes something like this:
As we age and our personal history grows longer, any given fraction of that history is a smaller and smaller piece of it. Or in other words, a year is 1/7th of a seven-year-old’s lifespan, but 1/14th of a fourteen-year-old’s, 1/21st of a twenty-one-year-old’s, and so forth. So it seems like time is speeding up because our frame of reference is getting larger.
